Bandpass Filter Significantly Mitigates 5G Interference Issues for Business Operators

Bandpass Filter Significantly Mitigates 5G Interference Issues for Business Operators

A new solution from Honeywell takes the worry out of 5G broadband interference for regional aircraft, business aircraft and helicopters.

Honeywell’s RFF-100 5G bandpass filter blocks 5G signals from impacting normal operation of the aircraft’s radar altimeter, which provides essential height-above-ground information to pilots and onboard systems. 5G interference can cause lost or inaccurate radar altimeter readings when they’re needed most, during low-visibility approach and landings.

Aircraft without the RFF-100 5G bandpass filter face safety risks and may face operational restrictions imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) during instrument landings and required navigation performance (RNP) conditions. Restrictions can consist of not being able to land at night or in bad weather at over 300 U.S. airports.

The RFF-100 5G bandpass filter is available for aircraft and helicopters equipped with Honeywell’s KRA-405B and RT-300 radar altimeters, including the Embraer Lineage 1000. Embraer has received certification approval to install the filter on their aircraft. Helicopter manufacturers Bell and Leonardo are expected to be certified to make the modification available in the summer of 2022.

For more information about the RFF-100 5G bandpass filter please contact your Honeywell representative or your aircraft manufacturer.
