New iTALIN 550 delivers ITAR-free navigation for light military vehicles

New iTALIN 550 delivers ITAR-free navigation for light military vehicles

Today's warfighters need to know precisely where they are and where they're headed, especially on increasingly complex and highly contested battlefields where adversaries routinely disrupt Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals.

"Accurate navigation can mean the difference between mission success and mission failure,” said John Guasto, Honeywell Aerospace vice president, international defense and space. “An inertial navigation system (INS) can’t be jammed, spoofed or blocked because it uses onboard gyroscopes and accelerometers instead of satellite signals. The INS continuously measures a vehicle's motion and calculates its position, velocity and orientation.”

For decades, global military forces have turned to Honeywell Aerospace and our Tactical Advanced Land Inertial Navigator (TALIN) product line for the accurate, reliable navigation data needed to navigate confidently across the battlefield. Now we’re introducing iTALIN 550, a new ITAR-free inertial navigation system designed for international operators of light military vehicles.

Ideal ITAR-free solution for international operations

We’re designing and manufacturing the iTALIN 550 in Italy, so it’s not subject to export restrictions under United States International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). “This streamlines export and licensing requirements for our international customers,” Guasto said. “It provides easy access to a trusted, high-performance navigation solution without many of the restrictions associated with U.S.-controlled defense technologies.”

Building on the success of the TALIN 500, the iTALIN 550 combines proven reliability with next-generation navigation capabilities, giving you a low-risk path to modernizing your vehicle fleets.

As a drop-in replacement for the TALIN 500, the iTALIN 550 provides operators with a straightforward path to modernize their navigation capabilities. It maintains the same power profile, connectors, communication protocols and mounting points as the TALIN 500 in a smaller package. Existing cabling and installation architectures can be reused, minimizing the integration effort, cost and vehicle downtime.

Tactical-grade navigation performance in GNSS-denied environments

The iTALIN 550 delivers the navigation performance land vehicles require without the need for GNSS signal in contested areas, at a cost point that makes large-scale fleet deployments practical

“Despite its advanced capabilities, the iTALIN 550 remains compact and lightweight, weighing approximately seven pounds and measuring roughly 15 by 19 centimeters,” Guasto said. “This small footprint makes it well suited not only for light military vehicles but also for a wide range of commercial and industrial vehicle applications.”

The system is available in two configurations: one with an embedded GNSS receiver and one without. At the heart of the iTALIN 550 is a tactical-grade closed-loop fiber-optic gyro (FOG) inertial navigation system paired with an embedded dual-antenna, multi-frequency, multi-constellation GNSS receiver. The system supports advanced anti-jam and anti-spoofing capabilities, delivers heading from initialization without relying on magnetic sensors or vehicle motion, and provides position, navigation and orientation data.

A scalable platform for fleet modernization and future growth

The iTALIN 550 is part of a scalable family of navigation systems that share a common architecture and form factor. You can upgrade to higher performance iTALIN variants in the future while minimizing integration changes and preserving fleet commonality.

“While the TALIN 500 established itself as a trusted navigation solution for military vehicles around the world, the iTALIN 550 builds on that legacy with next-generation FOG technology, embedded anti-jam GNSS, modern digital interfaces and an ITAR-free European supply chain,” Guasto pointed out. “The result is a low-risk modernization path that delivers enhanced performance, greater flexibility and long-term growth potential for military vehicle operations.”

The iTALIN 550 combines the proven heritage of the TALIN family with the advanced capabilities required for modern operations. Contact Honeywell Aerospace, Civitanavi Systems to learn how this next-generation, ITAR-free navigation solution can support your vehicle modernization strategy.
