What is AUKUS?
AUKUS is a trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States focused on strengthening stability in the Indo‑Pacific region. Through Pillar I, AUKUS enables Australia to establish a sovereign, conventionally armed nuclear‑powered submarine capability with long‑term industrial and workforce development. Pillar II accelerates collaboration on advanced defense technologies—including AI, quantum, cyber, undersea, hypersonics, and electronic warfare—to enhance interoperability and future‑ready capabilities.
First Pillar
- Aligning Australian and U.S. security requirements to enable trusted participation in in nuclear‑powered submarine sustainment.
- Uplifting Australian industry through integrated security assurance and supplier readiness activities.
- Advancing digital assurance and secure data‑handling to support Virginia‑class and SSN‑AUKUS programs.
- Strengthening a resilient, scalable sovereign supply chain for long‑term submarine sustainment.
Second Pillar
- Developing quantum sensing solutions for advanced navigation products with Australian industrial base
- Enhcancement of undersea navigation solutions with Australian industrial base
- Developing advanced alternate navigation solutions with Australian UAS developers for GPS denied environements
