LiDAR Technology Project

Project title: Research and development of innovative LiDAR technology for increasing aviation safety
Registration number: FW10010248
Period of execution: 01/2024 – 05/2026
Project partner: asphericon s.r.o., Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences

This project aims to develop new innovative LiDAR technology for air-data avionics, targeting next generation of modern aircrafts. This unit is planned to be used as a primary Air-data system (Air-Data Computer), and combines innovative solutions from many fields: photonics, precise opto-mechanics, electronics and UV laser technologies. The overall R&D effort is directed towards an advanced LiDAR Air-Data product, which combines HW and SW solution, and currently doesn't exist on the market worldwide.

The main subject of this project is to develop the key LiDAR sub-subsystems: interferometer-detector, optical head and processing algorithm, and achieve measurement precision of air free-stream along line-of-sight (LOS) of the order of 1 knot in real and/or reality close conditions.

Project outputs:

  • Second generation of interferometer detection system
  • Second generation of optical head
  • Algorithm and software for processing and evaluation of aerometric data

The project is co-funded by European union Recovery and Resilience Facility, Technology Agency of Czech Republic and National Recovery Plan.
