Multiplexer / Demultiplexer (MDM)
Overview
The Multiplexer / DeMultiplexer (MDM) were used in the Space Shuttle and Space Station Command and Data Handling system design. The MDM can provide control and data processing, communication control, and mass storage resources to support control and management of onboard functions.
The MDMs are also used to provide high reliability embedded control processing and are the main interface to onboard sensors and effectors via analog and discrete inputs and outputs. MDMs are designed to operate as a high reliability host to User Application Software (UAS) to control all functionality.
