Space to Ground Subsystem (SGS) Gimbal Assembly
Overview
The Space to Ground Subsystem (SGS) Gimbals steer the Space to Ground Parabolic Antenna for the transmission of Ku-band Radio Frequency signals. The Ku-band system is the primary return link for the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS Ku-band system is used for downlinking high rate data such as video and payload (experiment) data in digital format to the ground via the Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS) in geosynchronous orbit.
The SGS Gimbals provide unconstrained spatial antenna coverage of +/- 65 degrees Cross Elevation and +/- 120 degrees Elevation.
